A brief history
about MoreFish (aroMas)

Bangladesh ranked third in producing freshwater fish, behind China and India. The South Asian nation is now also the third biggest aquaculture producer in the world. Bangladesh is a land of rivers and ponds. Here in Bangladesh, the environment is suitable for fish to grow at a good pace. But because of the traditional way of fish cultivation and lack of automation, most of the farmers in Bangladesh do not have proper scientific information and/or monitoring of the water quality and other attributes suitable for fish farming. Our farmers are losing their fishes on an alarming rate and investment without a remedy. Fish mortality is caused by Dissolved Oxygen or NH3 concentration which is not known to most of the farmers. So, the production is less while culturing in hatchery, the death rate is around 75%. So, the efficiency in fish farming can be achieved over 30% and 40% feed cost can be dropped with the MoreFish (aroMas) system in our fish farming. This will be a huge gain to our fish and shrimp industry.

The DMA WQF-M was designed from the ground up as a made in Bangladesh product for checking water quality & living conditions of fish 24x7. DMA WQF-F also known as moreFish or aroMas can help to increase 30% efficiency in fish production and 40% feed savings at the pond, Gher, Plaban-Bhmui, Biofloc, Hatchery, or In-pond Raceway System (IPRS). The moreFish system has few components, where the floating device is a solar powered device with sensors, connected over a LORA wireless network to a GSM/WiFi gateway. The system is configured over a Bangladeshi owned DMAcloud infrastructure where your Data Security/Privacy is strictly maintained. You own your own data.

The fish farmer faces issues with water quality due to uneven distribution of feed and maintenance of the water body, where almost 30 percent of the fish stocks are damaged due to lack of proper methodologies. The feed, the Ammonia and the Oxygenation control requires trained and highly skilled personnel in the fish farm. The key tasks are usually executed in a disintegrated manner with a lot of dependency on the caretakers of the fish ponds.

The MoreFish system is developed to integrate floating devices for ponds, gher, plabon bhumi or fixed devices for hatcheries, IPRC or Raceway in providing path to distribute feed uniformly and monitor water quality by triggering aeration process as and when required besides, maintaining the pH level in the water body. Fish Farm will not have to worry for the employees as the process is fully automated. DMA, own funding of the design and development focusing on doubling the farm income, because the devices developed will help increase production and improve quality, increase the fish farms earnings.

DMA is a pioneer in Bangladesh for designing and developing Internet of Things (IoT) solution for Agriculture. DMA has successfully installed MoreFish devices at different client locations for Fish farming. Using AI and ML to analyze the following parameters:

  • Water pH
  • Total Dissolved Solid (TDS)
  • Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
  • Temperature
  • Hardness

The IoT enabled smart control sensors uniformly monitors 24x7x365 and transmit data in real-time for the water temperature, food toxicities, Ammonia (NH3), dissolved oxygen (DO), water hardness’s concentration with set parameters limitations that are harming the fish production. The MoreFish system prevents those mortalities by providing immediate action plan such that the fatalities never happened.

What is MoreFish System

The MoreFish system provides the optimum data threshold monitoring and notifications system, whereby a farmer would know what measures to take to manage a fish farm in an efficient way. The measures that the MoreFish system provides must be followed to get the 30% efficiency with 40% savings in feed within a month.

Examples:

1) Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Concentration & Food particles can introduce toxic concentration of Calcium Oxide. Chlorophyll (Green Water) day time is good for DO, but at night it produces CO2 which reduces DO concentration. Weather can cause DO fluctuation, like rain reduces the DO and during rain fish do not eats. So the MoreFish system is set to monitors the DO, where 4-6 PPM is normal; but 5 ppm is good, 6-8 is better. If these values deviate then automatically aerator is turned on if available, otherwise O2 tablet or O2 powder utilization will be notified to the farmers, to save the fish.

2) As for pH value exceeds 8.5 then the water is considered toxic. For fish pH 7.5 to 8.5 is preferred for Fish, pH 9 would kill fish. So, these threshold values may change in the water based on the food quality, weather, other extraneous products usage and maintenance. The MoreFish system will provide a mitigation messages to use (Chun) CaCo3 to increase the pH, or (Tetul) tamarind soluble to decrease the pH of the water.

3) Ammonia (NH3) concentration in water for fish is considered from 0.0 to 0.05 mg/L as normal. Farmers usually use more feed and extra fish protein which has the NH3/NH4, so more feed can cause more NH3. Ammonium (NH4) is a salt, but NH3 is dangerous while water color becomes brown, means more NH3, so too much feed kills’ fish. Too many fish in a pond can also create NH3. Non-maintenance pond at the bottom creates spoiled Soil, which also produces NH3. The Morefish system helps to mitigate to control normal NH3 with recommendations when to drain water to clean the spoiled soil. The system provides few other techniques like usage of Dissolved Molasses (or Brown Sugar) to mix in pond water to control the NH3.

4) Temperature for Pond or Plabon Bhumi: Where 27 to 32 C degrees in Ponds and Plabon Bhumi are consider optimum temperature for fish cultivation, any value below or above are not considered favorable, then the system is set to monitor the temperature, any deviation will be notified in real-time with a mitigation message.
